One or two glasses of wine a day may improve memory
The moderate consumption of wine, the equivalent of a glass or two a day, can enhance human memory, according to a study by researchers at the University of Auckland released today by the New Zealand press.
The study also warns that excessive drinking, on the other hand, prevents the developing brain cells and could damage the memory, although at times it strengthens the emotional memory, said the newspaper “New Zealand Herald”.
The researcher Maggie Kalev, who participated in the study, explained that “contrary to popular belief, we found that an excessive amount of alcohol boosts the memory of highly emotional stimuli, which implies that the concept of drinking to forget it is unlikely that be true. ”
Kalev, the department of medical sciences and health at the University of Auckland, adding that investigations “suggest that drinking excessively reinforcing negative memories.”
The study, conducted with rats showed that requires the presence of a receptor in the brain called NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate, abundant in the human nervous system), so that there is an improvement in memory.
The researcher added that further studies could be used to promote treatment of memory problems, such as those caused by Alzheimer’s disease.
